What if I can’t dance?

Everyone can dance free because its simply moving freely to music, however you feel. Not caring what people think. it’s doesn’t doesn't have to look like a dance. You can dance with eyes open or closed. The session is for all abilities, all levels of, all ages. You move as much or little as you want. It’s about feeling the music in movement however big or small that movement is. No previous experience in dance is needed as its just moving your body to music. There’s no judgement, expectation or right or wrong to move.

What is the cost?

The cost for regular session is suggested donation £9 to £12, pay what you can afford. Booking is in advance through Eventbrite here.

All donations are greatly appreciated because Dance Free C.I.C is a not for profit community interest company funded by donations and through collaborations with community organisations.

Dance Free sometimes runs subsidised or free events supported by other projects in the community.

How long are the sessions?

The sessions last around one and half hours. There is a welcoming for introductions, then a short facilitated warm up for around 10 mins, then a dance journey of around one hour. Followed by a group closing of the session. There is often extra time required for walking from the meeting place to the dance spot - this is included in each event details.

What kind of music is played?

A mix of genres, following a journey of different rhythms. From ambient, disco, funk, soul, afro-beat, trance, world beats, latino, electronic dance, soulful techno, jazz, neo-classical, house, DnB, Spanish guitar, harp, progressive trance, acoustic, tribal, dub, classical.

Are the sessions family friendly?

The regular sessions are for adults or mature children. Because the sessions are a mindful activity we advise that parents do not bring young children so they can participate fully in the moment.

We do also run family silent discos in parks which are aimed at children as well, as a fun activity for all the family to enjoy together.

What do I bring?

Wear comfortable clothes in layers and bring water. Also you might want to bring blanket/coat to sit on if you want to sit down for the welcoming/closing of the session.

Can I take photos or video myself or others in the session?

No photos or videos - we advise that phones are off or on flight mode. This enables people to be completely in the moment, as well as respects the space for other dancers and also eliminates interference for the radio signal of the silent disco

What happens if it rains?

Dancing free in nature is about embracing and embodying the changing weather through enjoying the elements in all their beauty. Unless there is heavy rain and wind or ice the sessions will go ahead. In the case of unsuitable weather conditions the event will be cancelled 24 hours before the date and refunds will be provided.

Do we all listen to the same music, or different channels on the headsets?

We all listen to the same music journey. There isn’t a choice of channels.

How many people are dancing?

On average the groups range from between 10 and 30 people. The maximum number of bookings is 60 people., or 30 in woodlands. Please book in advance (especially the beach dances as these are very popular) to avoid disappointment.

Is alcohol allowed at the events?

Dance Free is a no drugs or alcohol event as we dance with a clear mind to embrace mindfulness.

Are there car shares to the events?

There is a whats app community page where people post requests for car shares and other participants can offer car shares. Please message we.dance.free@gmail.com to be added to this group.

Are dogs allowed?

It is advised not to bring dogs because the sessions are a mindful activity therefore it wouldn’t be possible to keep an eye on them. Also to respect other participant’s experience.

Can I turn up on the day without booking?

Please book in advance on Dance free’s Eventbrite page as there are a limited number of headsets.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my booking?

Yes, up to 24 hours before the event.

Can I leave half way through the dance session ?

Yes, although we advise to experience the whole dance journey as there is a warm up and warm down with different kinds of music.

What if I am late for the session ?

We strongly advise to arrive on time as we walk to the dance space together - this can sometime be an a quiet hidden location in nature. Also it is part of the experience to be part of the welcoming.

What if I want to dance on my own?

Participants are welcome to dance on their own if they wish to, the session is time to move however and wherever you feel, whether it be with others or on your own. The headsets have a range of 100 metres if you would like to find your own spot to dance.
